Sunday, 28 August 2016 -- Moss, Norway
On Sunday, most of the grocery stores are closed.
Of course I could have asked someone about typical store hours, but I didn't. I went out looking for myself!
One of the nearby food stores is 3/4 of a mile in one direction ... closed. REMA 1000, one of the other food stores, is a mile in the other direction ... closed. But the walk to both was nice ... a cool, typically misty Norwegian day. Portable umbrellas were sported by those of us out and about.
But, I did find a couple ethnic food stores that were open, so I popped in to have a look. There I found some produce (grønnsaker) that was still fairly fresh ... enough to set me up with salads for the week! (What one Norsk friend called "kanin mat" (rabbit food).
And while prices in Norway can be shockingly steep compared to what we're used to back home, I was able to purchase some lettuce, a Norsk cuke, and a bag of peppers for 45 Kroner (a bit over $5). So it looks like I've got my week's worth of salads. Tomorrow I'll walk out for the rest of my weekly food supply!
